About Effective Teaching Methods

In White Stag, we don't focus on effective teaching, we focus on quality learning. Teaching connotes activities too typically requiring a lecture hall and a large number of desks. The emphasis is on learning, not on what the instructor teaches. Our job, as a manager of learning, is to help youth to become a more effective leader.

Youth are given realistic opportunities to practice what they learn and to make mistakes under close supervision. Any problems they experience can be quickly spotted by staff, feedback given, and with continued improvement, they gain increased confidence prior to experiencing the pressure of a real situation.

Certain teach/learn techniques are more appropriate in certain instances than others. This can vary depending on the:

  • Learning styles of participants
  • Outcomes desired
  • Learners' knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Time available
  • Availability of specialists
  • Number of participants
  • Instructor's skill

There are a wide variety of methods for communicating content. Unlike school, we strive to use a variety of learing methods that engage you in different ways.
