Adult and Youth Staff InterviewsDuring the Indaba each fall, we interview adult and youth staff for the following year. We are looking for highly motivated and committed individuals who want to improve their leadership skills and welcome challenging opportunities to learn. White Stag is where we are all working together towards a common goal. That feeling of unity can't be found anywhere else. Knowing we're all going in the same direction allows me to drop the barriers I have at school and other places. All that matters is the learning and sharing of leadership. — Camille Merz, Phase II Youth Staff All staff receive year-round training in leadership skills. The youth, mentored and coached by the adults, plan and produce the week-long summer training camp. The number of staff openings are limited and our standards are high. If you think you are qualified, please complete an application and attend the Indaba. Real learning begins on staff because when you teach others that you learn the most! We will notify everyone who completes an interview within two weeks. RequirementsAdult and youth staff must be willing to devote a minimum of one weekend per month. See the complete staff schedule. With very few exceptions, youth staff must have prior experience as a candidate participant on Phase 2 Patrol Leader Development or Phase 3 Troop Leader Development at White Stag summer camp. Adults are not required to have prior experience in the program. "I asked Oliver why he loves White Stag so much. 'Why not?' and after a long pause, during which he killed another monster, 'Because I learn a lot! And it's fun. And I get to run the camp.' " Our youth and adult staff meet beginning in September each year to begin training and planning for the next year's summer camps. We typically meet the first weekend of each month (with two exceptions) from 7:00 pm Friday until 11:00 am Sunday. Most training events are at the Presidio of Monterey Scout Lodge, with the exception of some staff hikes used to plan for the summer camp. We expect all of our staff to have ready access to email. CostAll adults and youth staff pay their own way. To keep our candidate fees low, we do not subsidize our leadership staff fees. All staff pay for their own food each weekend during staff development and for any site fees. These typically cost about $15-20.00 per weekend. All youth and adult staff also pay for their own food during the summer camp ($187.00 in 2011). Note: Youth and adult staff receive a 10% discount on the current year's activity and camp fees if paid in their entirety prior to November 1. ApplicationTo apply for staff, download and complete an application: Return your application by September 1 to Academy President Steve Cardinalli. Staff interviews are conducted at the Indaba and Reunion held at the Presidio of Monterey in September. |
