White Stag IndabaAn Indaba is a meeting or conference, originally held by izinDuna (principal men) of the Zulu and Xhosa peoples of South Africa. Lord Robert-Baden Powell grew to respect these people during his service in Africa, and borrowed this term for Scouting.
PurposeThe Indaba is participants' chance to review their Leadership Growth Agreement they wrote at camp with their patrol leader or patrol counselor. Campers get a chance to talk about what they've changed since coming home from camp, how they've applied what they learned at camp, and the new adventures they've started on. It is a chance to see their new friends from camp one more time. It's a great day to say hello to their favorite staff member and catch up on what everyone has done since camp.Everyone leaves camp excited about getting home and using what they've learned at camp. Sometimes this is easy, and other times it's a bit harder. Come to the Indaba to get your batteries recharged and to plan how you will apply what you've learned during the next year. Adult and Youth Staff InterviewsThe Indaba is also the day we interview for adult and youth staff for the following year. The number of staff openings are limited and our standards are high. If you think you are qualified, please come. This is where the real learning begins, because it's when you prepare to teach others that you learn the most! We will notify everyone who interviewed within two weeks. For an application, qualifications and details, see Staff Interviews. |
