White Stag and BSA's Junior Leader TrainingThe White Stag Leadership Development program was the inspiration for adapting leadership development into leadership training into the Boy Scouts of America's Wood Badge and junior leader training program during the 1960s and 1970s. The National Youth Leader Training program is the most recent implementation of junior leader training by the National Council BSA. It is a council-run program. White Stag is a Venture Post and a chartered unit of the Boy Scouts of America, sponsored by the White Stag Leadership Academy. The Academy is comprised of interested alumni, parents, and volunteers. White Stag is fully insured. We fully support and comply with all National BSA requirements for adult registration and supervision. The best way to learn about both programs is to read and compare their manuals: the 321 page NYLT syllabus and the 302 page Resources for Leadership were our sources for this comparison. Both aim to teach leadership skills to youth. These pages briefly describe how both programs accomplish these aims. Some differences are obvious, and others are more obscure. Six immediately stand out. |
